Write in Markdown. Publish a page, a deck, or a sealed document.

Liminal takes a note from your vault and publishes it as a styled link, turns it into a slide deck whose figures are checked against the sources it names, or seals it to a named reader who can comment and send edits back. Your files stay on your Mac.

Free to start. Runs on macOS 11+ (Intel & Apple Silicon).

What you can do with Liminal

  • Publish a note

Turn a note into a styled link, with a password, a custom domain and your own theme when you need them.

  • Decks with checked figures

Every number must match a declared source, and publishing blocks on a check that did not run.

  • Sealed delivery

Encrypted before it leaves you; the key travels in the recipient’s link, never to the server. You see when it was opened, and you can withdraw access at any time.

  • Comments and returned edits

Readers comment on a sentence and can send an edited version back. Nothing silently replaces your file.

  • AI editing you can see

Give one instruction and see the exact text that will be sent first. Applying the result is your decision. It runs on the server or on your own Mac.

  • Privacy-first analytics

See how many times each page was viewed and which sites send readers: aggregate counts and referrer domains, with no cookies, no IP address stored, and no cross-site tracking. Deck reading measurement and delivery receipts are opt-in, and the reader is told.

Frequently asked questions

Is Liminal free?
Yes. The free plan publishes single pages, up to 50 of them, with a small Liminal badge. Pro is $9/mo or $90/yr for unlimited pages, collections, passwords, custom themes, custom domains, and badge removal.
What is a deck?
A note published as slides. Every figure is checked against the source it names before the deck can be published.
How does sealed delivery work?
The note is encrypted before it leaves your Mac or browser: to the recipient’s own key, or to a key carried in their link. The server stores ciphertext and never receives the link’s key. Anyone who holds the full link can open it, so send each link only to the person it is for. You see when it was opened, and you can withdraw access to it.
Does AI see my notes?
Only the part you send, shown to you before it leaves. It runs on the server with your Pro plan, or on your own Mac through the Claude CLI on your own subscription. Internal regions are never sent.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac running macOS 11 or later (Intel or Apple Silicon) and a folder of Markdown, such as an Obsidian vault. Your notes stay on your machine.
Where does my data live?
Your notes stay local. Only the pages you choose to publish are uploaded, and only those are hosted and served as share links.
Do you track my readers?
Page analytics are aggregate counts: views per day, the referrer domain and, on Pro, the utm_source and utm_medium tags. No cookies, no IP address stored, and no cross-site tracking. Some features record more, and say so to the reader: a deck with reading measurement turned on counts time and interaction per slide and clicks on its goal button; a sealed document records when each named recipient opened it; a deck whose source is offered behind an email gate keeps the addresses readers enter, for you. The full list is on what Liminal records.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Pro lets you serve your published pages on your own custom domain with automatic HTTPS.
How do I cancel?
Manage or cancel anytime from the billing portal inside the app. Payments are handled by Polar as Merchant of Record.
